Undergraduate Courses Taught

Fundamental Engineering Courses:   The EED department currently offers many of the foundational engineering courses to for the College of Engineering (COE).  The courses taught by EED department faculty include ENGR 2010 – Statics, ENGR 2030 – Engineering Mechanics Dynamics, ENGR 2210 – Fundamental Electronics for Engineers, ENGR 2270 - Computer Engineering Drafting, and ENGR 2450 – Numerical Methods.

ENGR 1500 -Research Experience for Undergraduate Students

1 Credits:

Students work as undergraduate research assistants under a faculty mentor. Through the course, students will learn and apply data collection, analysis, synthesis, and presentation skills specific to the research project.

Repeatable for credit.

MAE 2300 -Thermodynamics I

3 Credits:

Fist and second laws of thermodynamics; analysis of open and closed systems; equations of state; power and refrigeration cycles; and problem-solving methodology.

Prerequisite/Restriction: MATH 1220; MATH 2210 (may be taken concurrently).

ENGR 2010 -Engineering Mechanics Statics

3 Credits:

Force and position vectors; equilibrium of particles; rigid bodies; the equivalent system of forces; equilibrium; free body diagrams; static analysis of trusses, frames, and machines; centroids and centers of gravity; friction; and moments of inertia.

Prerequisite/Restriction: MATH 1210 and MATH 1220 and (PHYS 2210 or PHYS 2200)

ENGR 2030 -Engineering Mechanics Dynamics

3 Credits:

Equations of motion, kinetics of particles, kinetics of rigid bodies, work and energy, impulse and momentum, three-dimensional kinematics, and vibrations.

Prerequisite/Restrictions: ENGR 2010, MATH 1210, MATH 1220

ENGR 2210 -Fundament Electronics for Engineers

3 Credits:

Study and application of DC and AC concepts. Includes circuit fundamentals, theorems, laws, analysis, components, equipment, and measuring devices. The laboratory will include circuit design, construction and analysis of AC/DC circuits, and the use of measuring instruments, power supplies, and signal generators. Not available to students majoring in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.

ENGR 2270 -Computer Engineering Drafting

2 Credits:

Provides engineering students with an introduction to computer-aided drafting environment. Explores AutoCAD and gives background in drafting theory and applications through the use of hand CAD techniques. Students gain an ability to contribute in the workplace using creative thinking skills and team environments.

Prerequisite/Restriction: Enrollment limited to only studnets having majors within the College of Engineering.

ENGR 2450 -Numerical Methods

3 Credits:

Numerical analyses applied to engineering problems, including simultaneous solutions of linear and nonlinear equations, optimization, curve fitting, numerical differentiation and integration, and numerical solutions of differential equations.

Prerequisite/Restriction:A structured programming experience in MATLAB, C, FORTRAN, EXCEL-VBA, or similar language; MATH 1220 and (MATH 2250 or MATH 2280). MATH 2250 or MATH 2280 may be taken concurrently.

ENGR 3080 -Technical Communication for Engineers (CI)

CI Communications Intensive

3 Credits:

The goal of this course is to prepare engineering students for the foundational research, individual and collaborative technical writing, teamwork, and presentation skills necessary to be effective technical and professional communicators in academic and professional settings.

Prerequisite/Restrictions: ENGL 2010 and admittance to the Professional Program in the College of Engineering.
